I'm a student at UniSa doing a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Management. In this blog I will be talking about different media issues, my opinions and class discussions around the topics. This will be my weekly journal corner for my "Issues in Publication and Design" class where I will also post drafts of my assignments, ideas, pictures of my artifacts and anything interesting in the media that I will come across.
What is a blog? A frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and other media. A kind of hybrid diary, a mixture of what is happening in a persons life. Blogs tend to be as different as unique as there are people.
In today's class, Anne brought up a very interesting topic from an article she had seen in 'The Australian':
"Numbers of women at the top shrinking despite hard work".
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/media/numbers-of-women-at-the-top-shrinking-despite-hard-work/story-e6frg996-1226124037418It was a very interesting discussion as we talked about women and our perception of them being in power and leading. We talked about how we can be judgemental towards them and their capabilities unconsciously as well. I have caught myself thinking that I wouldn't feel safe with a woman pilot as much as I would feel with a man pilot. This discussion became quite broad and we talked about female politicians and leaders such as Julia Gillard and how the public discriminates the gender. I am looking forward to the next class and to sharing it with you.
